This year, the Junior School Staff have been learning some new ways to approach Literacy in the classroom. We have been focusing on ensuring the students are involved in engaging and meaningful work.
The Daily 5 is a concept introduced by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser (The Sisters) that focuses on students becoming more independent and engaged during Literacy.
The Daily 5 consists of:
Read to Self
Read to Someone
Work on Writing
Listen to Reading
Spelling/Word Work
We have worked on 'Reading to Self' last term and the students have been learning how to choose books they can read independently that interest them.
This week we have been working on 'Reading to Someone'. We learnt the acronym EEKK to help us read with a buddy. This stands for elbow to elbow, knee to knee. Is it a great way to ensure we can hear our partner reading their story and that they can hear us!
Here are some photos of us using EEKK to 'Read to Someone'. If you look closely you might just see Mrs Downes!
Rebecca and Madeleine made a rap about EEKK
'Elbow to elbow
Knee to Knee
Come on everybody
We're doing the EEKK!'
