Maths-Our hands on lessons

Making 3D Shapes with Plasticine

Sharing

Hmmm, does this look equal to you?

This week we have been learning about Maths by using our hands! It is so fun. We have been looking at sharing (which is also known as division) and 3D shapes. When we divide a number, we do it by making equal groups. We tried unequal and equal sharing and decided equal is the best way. Can you tell which group is sharing equally?

Operation Christmas Child

This year, MACC is supporting an amazing charity called
Operation Christmas Child.

Here is some information from their website...

"Open up a whole new life…
…through the power of a simple gift

Samaritan’s Purse has changed the lives of children through Operation Christmas Child since 1993. Every year, generous people across the world lovingly pack shoe boxes with gifts – simple, yet powerful messages of God’s unconditional love.

And when a child opens a shoe box, they’re opening more than a present lovingly prepared just for them. They’re opening up their community to a world of life-changing opportunities."

Each week we are asking the students to bring in a gift.

There are 6 main types of gifts..

* Something to wear
(T-shirt, shorts, underwear, cap, beanie,
sandals, etc.)

* Something to love
(Teddy bear, doll, soft toy, etc.)

* Some things for school
(Exercise book, pencil case, pens,
pencils, colouring pencils,
sharpener, eraser, chalk, etc..)

* Something to play with
Tennis ball, cars, skipping rope, marbles,
musical instrument, yo-yo, slinky,
finger puppets, wind-up torch, etc.

* Something special
(Carry bag, sunglasses, bangles, necklaces, craft kits,
stickers, a personal note, a photo of yourself, etc.)

* Something for personal hygiene
(Soap and face washer, toothbrush,
hairbrush, comb, hair-clips, scrunchies, etc.)

Students can also bring in a shoe box or buy one from Mrs Murphy for a small fee. Any donation to help with the shipping fees is also appreciated. Thank you so much, your generosity can change a child and show them that they are loved.

Posting Comments

Hello to our blogging community!

A few parents and students have mentioned they have added a comment and it hasn't appeared on the page. We moderate all comments to make sure it is ok for our blog, so any new comment can take up to a few days to appear.

We have checked the settings and added a few 'trial' comments that were added to the blog so we are hoping the previous problem is fixed. We are very sorry, but if you did leave a comment, you will need to rewrite it. Thanks for your interest!

Shared Reading

In Reading, 2DP have been studying Anthony Browne. He is a very talented writer who has written nearly 40 books! We love his stories about Willy, who is a little Gorilla. We have been reading his books in our 'Shared Reading' time and discussing the 5 W's; Who? What? Where? When? Why?

What type of transport would you like to go on?

Hello wonderful 2DP! I was talking today with Liam and Ben about different types of transport. I asked them - if you could go on any type of transport what would that be? Ben said he wants to drive a semi-trailer. Liam said he would like to ride a camel. I would like to go on an aeroplane like Maddy.
What type of transport would you like to go on?
Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday!!
Love Mrs Philps

ASSEMBLY ITEM

Well, what an impressive item 2DP presented last week. They did a 3 part performance including a rap about Jesus, a timestables song and finished with singing and using sign language to 'Mighty to Save'. We were so impressed that we just HAD to celebrate with an iceblock at recess today. Well done to all of you.

Our back wall

This is a photo of the back of our classroom. Our Maths board has information about money and ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th ect..)

Narratives

We have been looking at Narratives this term. Narratives have a Title, Orientation, Complication and Resolution. As a class we have talked about our favourite Narratives. We had a variety of examples of stories from books, movies and television shows. We are reading lots of Narratives and soon we will start writing our own. So, what is your favourite Narrative?

Sink or Float

This term we are learning about different forms of transport. We designed and then made our own boats. It was very interesting to see which boats floated and which ones sank. Watch as we discuss what makes the boats sink or float.
